Solvay to raise prices for sodium sulfite products

HOUSTON, TX, Aug. 8, 2008 (Press Release) - Solvay Chemicals, Inc. will increase all off schedule pricing for its Sodium Sulfite and Sodium Metabisulfite products, effective immediately or as contracts permit. Prices are as follows:

- Sodium Sulfite Technical Grade $0.40/lb
- Sodium Sulfite Food/Photo Grade$0.42/lb
- Sodium Metabisulfite Technical Grade$0.37/lb
- Sodium Metabisulfite Food/Photo Grade$0.39/lb

Sodium Sulfite Blended Products:
• Catalyzed$0.53/lb
• Catalyzed and Decharacterized$0.54/lb

In addition, the sulfur surcharge program instituted in May 2008 remains in effect.

According to Mike Wood, Business Manager, Sulfite Products, "The price of sulfur is at an all-time high and supply is short, and the unprecedented escalation in the cost of other raw materials and market demands have driven up Solvay Chemicals' cost of manufacturing. We have kept this increase as low as possible to reflect our concern for our customers."
