CENIBRA receives award for its waste management system
SAO PAULO, Aug. 26, 2008 (Press Release) - CENIBRA was granted the SIEMENS VAI Environment Award for the paper "Technical feasibility analysis on the use of Kraft pulp wastes in the production of ceramic bodies". The paper was presented during the 62nd Vitória, Espírito Santo.
The work was carried out by the Quality Department in cooperation with the Environment Department, and it deals with the formulation of ceramic bodies using wastes generated by CENIBRA (grits, dregs and biological sludge). The use of wastes ensures sustainable material stewardship and extends the industrial landfill life.
CENIBRA has developed new solid waste management strategies founded on the three basic principles of environmental sustainability, namely: reduction, reutilization and recycling.
The main solid wastes generated in the pulp production process are the biological sludge from the effluent treatment station, eucalyptus barks, lime sludge (CaCO3) and other alkaline materials from the causticizing plant (dregs and grits). Other residues generated by the company are the wastes from the brown and bleached pulp processing, civil work debris and garbage.
