Metso to supply pulp washing technology to Rosenthal, Germany

JYVASKYLA, Finland, Aug. 25, 2008 (Press Release) - Metso Paper has received an order to supply technology for improving pulp washing at the Zellstoff- und Papierfabrik Rosenthal GmbH mill in the province of Thuringia, in central Germany. The modernized fiber line will be taken into operation during the second half of 2009. The order value is not disclosed according to an agreement between the two partners.

The order includes two TwinRoll wash presses. One TwinRoll press will be installed to improve the brown stock washing. The other TwinRoll press, with improved washing efficiency while retaining higher consistency, will be installed in the ozone bleaching stage. This enables continuous efficiency of ozone utilization. The press also improves the bleaching degree of closure, giving less emission to the outflow.

The order also includes basic engineering as well as erection and start-up supervision. After this modernization, the mill has altogether six TwinRoll wash presses supplied by Metso Paper.

Rosenthal GmbH (ZPR) is a subsidiary company of Mercer International Inc. Rosenthal with its sister companies Zellstoff Stendal GmbH (ZSG) and Zellstoff Celgar Limited is one of the leading manufacturers of Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft (NBSK) pulp in the world. The production capacity of Rosenthal totals approximately 310,000 tons of kraft pulp per year, the total production of Mercer International being approximately 1.4 million tons per year. This year, the Rosenthal mill is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
